PHCC Provides Input at Stakeholder Meeting on SB20-120 Rules

With the passage of SB20-120, Electrical and Plumbing Apprentices with six or more years of Apprentice registration will be required to begin taking the Journeyman Wireman’s examination or Plumbing examinations (respectively). The bill also requires the State Electrical and Plumbing Boards to adopt rules concerning the process of requesting and approving licensing examination exemptions for these apprentices if:

  1. The Apprentice has failed to pass the examination in two consecutive three-year (electrical) or two-year (plumbing) periods; and
  2. If the apprentice has legitimate educational or professional circumstances that justify the exemption.

DORA is holding a virtual stakeholder meeting to gather input on rules surrounding exemptions on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. PHCC will be monitoring and participating in the meeting. PHCC and others have requested that requirements on exemptions are not too burdensome or stringent for those who wish not to take the exams.

The final rules will be considered by the State Plumbing Board on April 28, 2021.
